Disordered Eating vs Eating Disorder

"Disordered eating" and "eating disorder" get used like they mean the same thing. They don't — but the line between them matters less than whether what you're doing is costing you peace, time, or joy. If it is, that's worth looking at, whatever you call it.

Two patterns to explore
Food / Diet
Body / Weight
Food / Diet: Cutting out whole food groups. Rules about when, how much, or what you're "allowed" to eat. Anxiety around eating in front of others. Feeling like a "good" or "bad" day hinges on what you ate.
Body / Weight: Checking your body in mirrors or photos throughout the day. Weighing yourself often, or avoiding the scale out of fear. Choosing outfits, plans, or outings based on how your body looks that day.
The Real Difference
The line isn't about willpower or how "bad" it looks from outside — it's about how much space this is taking up in your life, and how long it's been going on. If food or body thoughts show up occasionally, that's common in a world like ours. If they show up daily, run the day, or don't let up — that's worth real support, whatever label fits or doesn't.
