the Recovery Academy

Privacy Policy

Last updated: August 21, 2026

Recovery Academy is an eating disorder recovery resource built by Stephanie Waitt, LPC-S, for Texoma Specialty Counseling. This policy is starter text written in plain language, drafted to accurately describe what the app actually does — it is not legal advice and has not yet been reviewed by a licensed attorney.

What we collect

  • Account info: your name, email address, and password (if you sign up directly), or your basic Google profile info (name, email) if you sign in with Google.
  • Lesson progress: which lessons you've marked finished, which you've bookmarked, and roughly where you left off in a lesson, so it can follow you across devices when you're signed in. If you're not signed in, this is saved only on your own device and never reaches us at all.
  • Membership and payment status: whether you have an active subscription, when it renews or ends, and basic billing history. Recovery Academy never sees or stores your card number — all payment processing is handled directly by Stripe.
  • Anything you type into a lesson's interactive elements (journal prompts, checklists, sliders) is held in your browser for that session.

What we don't collect

  • We do not use cookies for analytics, and we do not track you across other websites or apps.
  • We do not sell your information, and we do not share it with advertisers.
  • We do not access your Google Drive, Gmail, Calendar, or anything beyond the basic profile Google shares when you sign in with it.

Analytics

We use Plausible, a privacy-first, cookieless analytics tool, to see aggregate traffic and which lessons get used — page visited, referrer, device type, country, nothing tied to your name, email, or account.

Payments

Membership billing is handled entirely by Stripe. When you subscribe, Stripe processes your card directly — Recovery Academy never receives or stores your full card number. We keep only what's needed to know your subscription is active: a subscription ID, its status, and renewal date.

Crisis support content

Recovery Academy links to crisis support resources from within the app. Recovery Academy is not a crisis service itself, does not monitor your activity in real time, and cannot respond to an emergency. If you are in crisis, please use the resources listed on our in-app crisis support page or contact emergency services directly.

Data retention and deletion

We keep your account information and lesson progress for as long as your account exists. You can delete your account and its data at any time from your profile page.

Children's privacy

Recovery Academy is intended for users 18 years of age or older, given the nature of the content. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18.

Security

Access to account, subscription, and progress data is restricted by database-level access controls scoped to your own account, with administrative access limited to authorized roles only.
